PURPOSE: To produce a novel silica-resin based composite free from the rapid deterioration of rigidity even at the temp. above glass transition point in spite of its high silica content and excellent in stability at a high temp. ;CONSTITUTION: This novel silica-resin based composite is a mutual penetration type composite formed from the three dimensional meshlike structural body composed of a silica spherical particle having the following structural and dynamic characteristics and the resin. (1) The silica spherical particles are three-dimensionally combined with each other and has 6-30μm particle diameter. (2) The silica spherical particle has fine pores of 5-10nm in radius on the surface and 300-400m2/g specific surface area. (3) The combined part between the silica particles is constricted an the cross-sectional area of the combined part is in the range of 1/2 to 1/4 of the max. cross-sectional area. (4) Almost all part of the surface of the silica particle is covered with a water soluble polymer. (5) Communicated circular openings are formed in the inside of the meshlike structural body and the porosity of the meshlike structural body is 40-60%.
