PURPOSE:To obtain a flocculant produced by microorganism capable of effectively separating activated sludge without causing bulking phenomena of activated sludge and to provide a method of flocculation treatment of waste water. CONSTITUTION:This flocculant produced by microorganism consists essentially of a culture mixture of a bacterium containing at least one genus or species selected from Pseudomonas fluorescens KYM-1 strain (FERM P-11,333), Pseudomonas cepacia KYM-2 strain (FERM P-11,334), Acinetobacter, Agrobacterium agrobacterium KYM-4 strain (FERM P-11,336), Enterobacter, Aureobasidum or Oerskovia of a treated material of the culture mixture. A method of flocculation treatment of waste water comprises bringing the flocculating agent produced by microorganism into contact with suspension-containing waste water. A method of preventing bulking of activated sludge comprises adding the flocculant produced by microorganism to a treatment system and preventing bulking phenomena of activated sludge in a separated zone of activated sludge and water to be treated.
