PURPOSE: To obtain the subject improving agent containing a glyceride of docosahexaenoic acid or its alkyl ester as an active ingredient, capable of improving an olfactory and an intellectual training functions of an animal by orally administering it to the animal such as a dog. CONSTITUTION: This improving agent contains la glyceride of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and/or an alkyl ester of the DHA as an active ingredient. DHA triglyceride as the DHA glyceride and ethyl or methyl ester of the DHA as the alkyl ester of DHA are preferable. Also, in the case of administering either of them directly to the animal, it is preferably to use as a capsule from by wrapping it with an encapsulating agent such as gelatin and glycerol. Furthermore, the DHA is usually obtained by refining fish oils of fishes such as bonito and sardine.
