PURPOSE: To form a corrosion resistance protective coating based on hexad chromium on a metallic base material without requiring supplementary protecting means by using a bath liquid consisting of granular metals, chromic acid, water-soluble solvents of a high b.p. non-protonic polarity type and water. ;CONSTITUTION: The prescribed protective coating is formed on the metallic base material by subjecting the base material to degreasing and mechanical or chemical eroding, then immersing the material into the bath liquid. The bath liquid of this time is composed to contain about 5 to 40% metals (Zn, Al, etc., and a grain size of about 1 to 25 μ) in the form of granules, about 0.5 to 15 wt.% chromic acid and/or ≥1 derivatives as an oxidizing agent and at least one water-soluble solvents (cyclohexanone, etc.) selected from the non- protonic polarity type and ketone type having a high b.p. in such a manner that the ratio of the solvents/chromate ions attains about 0.5 to 20 and to consist the balance of the water.
