PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing a high hardness wear resistant steel having temper softening resistance and low temp. toughness and having ≥500 HB Brinell hardness. ;CONSTITUTION: A steel having a compsn. contg., as base components, 0.30 to 0.50% C, 0.40 to 1.50% Si, 0.40 to 1.50% Mn, 0.10 to 1.50% Cr, 0.05 to 1.00% Mo, 0.005 to 0.050% Ti, 0.005 to 0.05O% Nb, 0.0005 to 0.0030% B, 0.01 to 0.10% sol. Al and 0.0010 to 0.0060% N, contg., at need, one or ≥ two kinds among Cu, Ni, V and Ca, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is subjected to hardening treatment in which it is heated to 1000 to 1250°C, is subjected to hot rolling and is thereafter cooled from the A3 transformation point or above at ≥10°C/sec cooling rate to ≤200°C and is successively subjected to tempering treatment at 150 to 450°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
