PURPOSE: To accurately measure three dimensional shape of an object. ;CONSTITUTION: Two cameras 10 and 20 are used. A distance DS to a subject is obtained from the picked-up stereo images at a distance-measuring part 70 according to a stereo measuring method. Meanwhile, distance data DR and DL are obtained at front and rear stereo distance-measuring parts 60 and 80 according to a front and rear stereo measuring method while the distance to the subject is changed. A total processing part 90 processes each data DS, DR, DL through a weighted mean treatment in accordance with the respective reliability, thereby to obtain an ultimate distance to the subject. Accordingly, a three- dimensional shape of the subject can be highly accurately and stably measured with the measuring results according to two methods compensated each other.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
