PURPOSE: To absorb the energy upon the breakdown of a lightning element by a cylinder-like body which houses the lightning element, facilitate the housing operation of the lightning element into the housing cylinder-like body with speed, prevent the scattering of the shot of an inorganic fiber, and reduce the weight of the lightning insulator. ;CONSTITUTION: A ceramic coated layer 14 is coated and formed on the outer periphery of a protecting cylinder 13, being a cylinder-like body, made of an inorganic fiber. The protecting cylinder 13 is housed in a housing cylinder-like body 12 made of a porcelain, and a lightning element 15, the voltage-current characteristics of which is non-linear, is housed in the protecting cylinder 13. Accordingly, the scattering of the shot of the inorganic fiber constituting the protecting cylinder 13 can be prevented by the ceramic coated layer 14.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
