PURPOSE:To efficiently recover platinum metal from a catalyst at low cost by crushing and granulating a ceramic honeycomb-structured catalyst containing platinum metal, baking a granulated product and dissolving and extracting platinum metal from the baked product. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic honeycomb-structured catalyst used for the purification of automotive exhaust gas is crushed and granulated, and the granulated product obtained through granulated is baked. Next, from this baked product platinum metal is dissolved and extracted to recover it from the catalyst. The granulating agent used for the granulation of a crushed catalyst is inorganic, e.g. clay, glass and water-soluble alumina and organic, e.g. starch, cellulose and polyvinyl, and these are combined for effective application. For the dissolution and extraction of platinum metal from the baked product the best way is immersion the baked product in an acid with oxidative property.
