ATM-LAN AND SERVER AND ATM ADDRESS MANAGEMENT METHOD

PURPOSE: To suppress increase in traffic by using the server method and the broadcast method in common to manage an ATM address and to eliminate the need for an initializing of an ATM address table and updating in the extension/movement. ;CONSTITUTION: A caller terminal equipment 11 sends an ATM address inquiry request to a server 21 when an ATM address of a destination terminal equipment 12 is not clear. Upon the receipt of the ATM address inquiry request from the terminal equipment 11, the server 21 retrieves an ATM address corresponding to a protocol address included in the inquiry request by referencing an ATM address table 21a and informs the result to the terminal equipment 11. When the ATM address corresponding to the protocol address is not registered in the ATM address table 21a, the server 21 transfers the ATM address inquiry request to all terminal equipments (broadcast) and informs the ATM address obtained by a reply with respect to the inquiry request to the terminal equipment 11 and registers it.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
