PURPOSE: To improve the safety and reliability by generating a rate control signal of a buried pacer by combining an interval of respiration, or the like with the other parameter taken out from an impedance signal to a time, in a proper rate control algorithm. ;CONSTITUTION: A pacer comprises a pulse generating means 18 for generating a pulse for stimulating a heart, and a sensing means including the electrodes 24, 26 attached to a catheter 12, for sensing the impedance in the blood in the selected one cardiac chamber. A time variable impedance signal in proportion to the impedance in the heart, is output from an impedance processing circuit 36 on the basis of the sensing signal, and the signal is added to a peak hold detector 40, to generate a signal in proportion to the cardiac output of the heart. Further the time variable impedance signal is added to a timing circuit 44 for the signal processing to output a signal relating to a time interval which is proportional to an ambient period, and this signal is used for adjusting the rate of the rate adaptive pacemaker.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
