PURPOSE: To eliminate a step position shift and give a print always at a correct position by temporarily interrupting operation when a time card is inserted halfway in stepping-up operation, and performing the remaining stepping-up operation after the card is drawn out. CONSTITUTION: A step-up signal S4 is supplied five times from a control circuit 5 to a step-up solenoid driving circuit 55 for five-stage stepping-up operation, and when two pulses P1 are outputted to a step-up solenoid 56, the time card is inserted and a card detection switch 53 operates; if a pulse P2 is generated, the circuit 55 temporarily stops supplying the pulse P1. Then the three remaining pulses P1 are supplied a T time later after printing operation ends, the time card is drawn out, and the detection switch 53 turns off. Stepping-up operation is performed with the spring force charged in a return spring with the previous pulse P1 before the T time, so no step position shift is caused. Therefore, desired stepping-up operation is performed correctly with the leaving two pulses P1 and remaining pulse P1.
