PURPOSE: To produce a foundation cloth consisting of a plain knit cloth constituting a sheet for a three-layer sheet, free from the propagation of damage to knitting yarn even if a part of the knitting yarn is broken and keeping the stretchability and feeling of a plain knit cloth and to provide a process for the production of the cloth. ;CONSTITUTION: A thermoplastic insertion yarn 11 is inserted into a plain knit cloth at least at every 3 courses to form a knit cloth 13. The knit cloth 13 is drawn in longitudinal direction and set by heat-setting. The part holding the inserted yarn 11 in the interlocked part of the adjacent courses is bonded as a binder by the heat of the heat-setting treatment to prevent the propagation of the damage to the knitting yarn and keep the stretchability and feeling of the plain knit cloth.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
