PURPOSE:To provide the efficient HMM generating method which generates HMM having optimum network structure for protein array data. CONSTITUTION:The state number of HMM to be found for the protein array data is denoted as N (11) as initialization. The network structure of the initial HMM is set to all-coupled HMM whose state is about 3-5 (12). A specified trial frequency CNTMAX and an initial parameters are made into random numbers parameter estimation is repeated by Baum-Welch algorithm to substitute the HMM having the best likelihood in a candidate M (13). When the state number of the candidate M is smaller than the state number N to be found (14), M is stored as bstM (15), HMM obtained by removing transition of less than probability epsilon from M and adding one state is obtained as the network structure of the initial HMM (16), and parameter estimation is repeated (13). When the state number of the candidate M becomes larger than N (14), postprocessing is performed (17) and the generation is ended.
