PURPOSE: To enable a control system to obtain the optimum stable response even when either one of an auxiliary exciting power source and main exciting power source is used by setting the optimum control gain to each power source when each power source is operated. ;CONSTITUTION: A control gain function setter 32 respectively sets in advance optimum control gain functions corresponding to a main exciting power source and auxiliary exciting power source. A control gain function selector 33 selects the control gain function corresponding to one of the exciting power sources selected through a switch 13 from the setter 32 and uses the function as the specific control gain function of a voltage adjuster 31. When a synchronous machine is operated by using the auxiliary power source, the selector 32 sets the optimum control gain function of its control system to the adjuster 31 and, when the machine is operated by using the main exciting power source, the setter 31 sets the optimum control gain function of its control system to the adjuster 31.
