PURPOSE: To obtain a composition which is prepared by lyophibizing an aqueous solution containing a specific tetraalkyl-benzidine and an organic acid, useful for detecting or determining peroxidase-like substances and oxidants, is readily prepared, and shows high color-developing sensitivity and excellent linearity in its calibration curve. ;CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing a tetraalkylbenzidine bearing 1-3C alkyls, for example, 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine and an organic acid such as citric acid is lyophilized to give the objective composition, which can be prepared relatively easily and has a long-term storability and is excellent in color-developing sensitivity and linearity of its calibration curve when used for detection and determination of peroxidase-like substances and oxidants, and is useful in enzyme immunoassay and enzyme immunoassay dyeing. In the measurement of an oxidant, this composition is mixed with an aqueous medium to prepare a color-developing solution, which is mixed with the oxidant and the developed color is measured or determined.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
