PURPOSE: To perform the tests for the burning characteristics, engine thrust and the like of a ram-jet engine without hardly generating shock waves. ;CONSTITUTION: In a variable Mach-number nozzle 20, a rotary block 30 is housed in the inside of a housing 24. A gas flow path having a throat part 32 is formed between the rotary block 30 and a ceiling wall 26 of the housing. The above described rotary block 30 is rotated as a pin 34 at the outlet side as the center, and the area of the throat part is changed. Thus, the Mach number can be regulated. The inner surface of the ceiling wall 26 of the above described housing is made to be the uniform flat surface. Under the state, wherein the housing ceiling wall 26 is made to face the bottom surface of the front part of a flying body 10 for the test, the outlet of the variable Mach-number nozzle 20 is directed toward an inlet 14 of a ram-jet engine 12, which is provided in the protruding pattern in the flying body 10 for the test.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
