PURPOSE: To measure water quality in an arbitrary water area extending over a wide range and continuously. ;CONSTITUTION: The water quality is known by analyzing the spectrum of a photographed color picture. The picture data of the surface of water photographed by an image pickup device is picture-processed by a personal computer 2 to be a picture processing unit, and the removal of a noise and the correction of illuminance are executed. Subsequently, the ratio of the luminance of the G-channel and the B-channel of the picture data or spectrum peak wavelength the picture data shows is determined. Then, chlorophyll (a) concentration is determined from correlation between the ratio of the luminance or the spectrum peak wavelength and the chlorophyll (a) concentration, and the distribution of phytoplankton is known.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
