PURPOSE: To remove heavy metals by properly holding an addition amt. of a sulfide and an iron salt by measuring an amp. of an insoluble hydroxide or sulfide as an SS value and operating the total amt. of heavy metals on the basis of the SS value and' also operating the addition amt. of a sulfide and an iron salt necessary for the flocculating separation of mercury. ;CONSTITUTION: The water to be treated introduced into a water tank 1 from a water passage 11 is sent to a reaction tank 2 under pressure from a passage 14 by a pump 12 and the flow rate thereof is measured by a flowmeter 13. At this time, a part of the water to be treated is sent to a monitor 17 under pressure through a passage 16 by a pump 15 and the concn. of mercury is measured by a mercury measuring device 18. At the same time, a precipitated insoluble hydroxide is measured as an SS value by the SS meter 88 of a total heavy metal concn. measuring device 19. Further, the total amt. of heavy metals is operated by a control device 7 and the addition amt. of a sulfide and an iron salt necessary for the flocculating separation of mercury is operated.
