An encoding circuit and appropriate processing units are mounted on aterminal to provide it with the intelligence necessary for local recognitionof encoded cards and their immediate processing, of debits or credits forexample, without using a remote server. The cards contain values that can bemodified after checking the code. To provide an alternative to theconstraints of installing a telecommunication network, each time you need amagnetic card or smart card system for certain specific services, such in thearea of electronic banking, for real-time execution of certain transactions,the terminal is constructed in such a way as to enable it to execute thebasic operations locally, i.e. independently, on the appropriate cards.
