This invention pertains to a method for the automatic opening and closing ofthe outermost basin of a self-propelled or independent drive piece ofchopping equipment by means of a hydraulic, pneumatic or electric design thatis easily operated. This invention pertains specifically to a self-propelledchopping machine for the harvesting of cutting maize. This process uses apiece of equipment called a maize bit. This invention pertains to maize bitwith multiple bits, specifically a six-row version. An often-occurringproblem in using this type of maize bits is road transport. In a morespecific execution of the maize bits according to this invention, theoutermost bits on both sides are foldable. This invention pertains to thecurrently used six-row version of the maize bits, where the completehydraulic, pneumatic or electric operation of the opening and closing of thetwo outermost bits on both sides of the maize bits is made possible bypressing a button in the cockpit after the installation of a number of parts.
