The invention relates to a concrete mixture which contains ballast material, water and binder. The ballast material consists at least partially of peat which has been hardened by drying. The peat has been pressed before drying in order to transfer stone material particles, bound to the pores of the peat, to the surface of the pressed peat. The ballast material consists of peat grains which have been screened in a manner known per se, the screen fractions have been chosen in accordance with a known process in concrete technology. The binder employed is a reactive binder such as cement, lime or gypsum, or a mixture of these substances.
