Driving long piles into ground without buckling - uses gas spring and detachable couplings to keep pile under tension until it has been sunk sufficiently to ensure stability
Driving long piles into ground without buckling - uses gas spring and detachable couplings to keep pile under tension until it has been sunk sufficiently to ensure stability
The pile (1) is suspended by links (3) connected to detachable mountings (2). Each link (3) is connected to a gas spring (4). The pile driver support (12) is guided by the piston rods (6) and by supports (13) and guides (14) on the movable links (3). The pile (1) is pushed into the ground by its own weight, the weight of the pile driver (11) and pressure above the piston (5). Light blows drive it further into the ground. The coupling (8) is then lowered so that tension on the pile is removed before the final driving force is applied.
