Expanded articles of biodegradable plastic material are produced by agglomerating expanded particles with density from 0.1. to 0.003 g/gm3 and size from 0.5 to 10 mm of diameter, made of a material comprising: from 50 to 95% by weight of thermoplastic starch; from 0.5. to 45% by weight of at least one thermoplastic polymer; from 2 to 20% by weight of water; characterized in that the foamed particles are prepared through a route which consists of compressing/depressurising non foamed particles or through a heating treatment by microwave.
