Solvent systems for oils used to treat hard surfaces - comprise a mixt. of one or more 1-4C alcohols and one or more esters instead of petroleum-based solvent systems comprising acetone, naphtha wax and thinner. Pref. the solvent is ethanol and the ester is a diester, pref. dimethyl adipate, dimethyl glutarate or dimethyl succinate. The oil is castor oil, grapenut oil, walnut oil, teak oil, linseed oil, an alkyl oil or chinese wood oil.
