A synthetic microfibrous non-woven, suede-type, fabric comprises a microfibre matrix impregnated with a polyurethane polymer comprising tert. amine units of formula (I): (-O-R"-N(R)-R'-O- wherein R, R', R2 = 1-4C alkyl. Also claimed are (i) the user of a polyester diol (III): [-OOC-(CH2)n-COO-R"-N(R)-R'- OOC-(CH2)n-COO-] with average mol. wt. 1900-2100, obtd. from reaction of a 2-8C aliphatic dicarboxylic acid with a mixt. of a hydroxylamine (precursor of ?) (I) and an aliphatic 2-12C diol, in the prepn. of such a non-woven fabric; and (ii) a process for the prepn. of the fabric. Pref., R = Me; R', R" = Et; and n = 0 or 1-6, esp. 4. Pref., the gps. R' and R" are bonded to aromatic or aliphatic diisocyanate gp.s R'"(NCO)2 with urethane links as in formula (II) (-R'"-HN-COO-R"-N(R)-R'- (OOC-NH-R'"-) or bonded by ester gps. to a dicarboxylic acid residue as in formula (III). Units (I) pref. comprise 5-15 wt. % of the polyurethane. Pref. microfibres are 6- or 6,6'-polyamide.
