The machine comprises a trimming-chopping tool composed of a straight saw, of chain type 1, with trimming-cutting teeth 10, actuated by a hydraulic motor 5. The machine further comprises a frame 14 designed for connection to the three-point hitch of a tractor and equipped with a carriage 19 having an arm and forearm assembly 23-30 and with corresponding actuation jacks 24-31. On said carriage and/or said arm/forearm assembly can be mounted farm implements, including said trimming-chopping or pruning tool, to perform work in the spaces between the plants in the rows, or in embankments, ditches, or on the roadside. Interference of the tool with obstacles in the rows of plants is avoided by the automatic actuation of the arm/forearm assembly which carries said tool, by means of a sensor with probe 37-137 mounted on said assembly. Said frame 14 has stabiliser wheels 16, plates 17 to support coulters or scarifiers, and it can be outfitted with means of gathering up the material resulting from the trimming, chopping and pruning operation.
