Device comprising a tube or channel through which a flow of liquid circulates and within which the capillary medium is located, the whole being within or in contact with a thermal compartment. A control system adjusts the temperature of the thermal compartment, the initial temperature of the fluid entering the tube and its rate of flow, maintaining these constant or varying them during electrophoresis. The technique resulting from the use of this device, known as temperature gradient capillary electrophoresis, can be used to separate very similar molecules whose electrophoretic mobility varies with temperature, such as polynucleotides, polypeptides, polysaccharides, derivatives of these, and other polymer or non-polymer molecules or complexes.
