A temperature (thg) of absorbent liquid when heated and condensed by a regenerator (3 or 5), that (tr) of cold water (21a) in the evaporator (1) at the inlet or outlet, and that (tc) of cooling water (22) flowing from an absorber (2) to a condenser (4) at the inlet or outlet are measured. On the basis of the temperature (thg) of absorbent liquid (23a), that (tr) of cold water (21a) at the inlet or outlet, and that (tc) of cooling water (22) at the inlet or outlet, an upper limit heat quantity (Q*) for heating in said regenerator (3 or 5) at the time of said measurement is computed. An actual heat quantity (Q) in the regenerator (3 or 5) is controlled so as not to exceed said computed upper limit heat quantity (Q*). The heat quantity in the regenerator (3 or 5) is prevented from being excessively controlled and crystallization of the absorbent liquid (23a) at the outlet (6a) of a heat exchanger (6) is also prevented. Heat loss incurred when regenerated refrigerant (24) is returned to the condensed absorbent liquid (23a) is avoided.
