In the process according to the invention,a gel is prepared by hydrolysis and polycondensationof precursor compounds which comprise at leastsilicon alcoholate and aluminum alcoholate andinorganic compounds of lithium and/or magnesium, thesolvent is removed, and the gel obtained issubjected to a heat treatment resulting indehydration and oxidation, then to compacting andceramisization. The composition obtained issubstantially in the form of solid ceramicsolutions, such as .beta.-spodumene, cordierite andmullite.
