An oscillator operational in the millimeterwave and microwave range, including frequencies greaterthan ?0 GHz, is provided with reduced phase noise byenhancing Q of the resonant circuitry by reactivelyterminating fundamental frequency oscillation and in-creasing stored fundamental frequency energy in theresonant circuitry. A two frequency system is providedwith constructive reflection of energy at fundamentalfrequency back to the resonant circuitry, and with isola-tion of fundamental frequency energy from the outputload. Energy to the output load is obtained from the in-situ generated second harmonic of the active element.Phase noise is reduced by enhancing Q by more than anorder of magnitude.
