This invention relates to a method of predicting the propensity for metastatic spread of a female breast tumour. The method comprising of examining a tissue sample from the tumour for expression of a polypeptide containing at least a substantial part of the amino acid sequence designated pLIV1, or a polypeptide homologous therewith.
