The present invention relates particularly to a process for producing fine or ultrafine particles, particularly metal particles, and to a reactor for the production of said particles. The main object of the invention is a reactor for the production of fine or ultrafine particles comprising a sealed housing provided with an anode (51) and a cathode (48) connected to an electric supply in order to form a plasma, and an inert gas source (66) arriving into the housing, characterized in that the reactor is further provided with two diaphragms (62) arranged in the housing between the anode (51) and the cathode (48) limiting the extent of the plasma, and in that an opening is provided in each diaphragm, the electrodes (48, 51) and said openings being aligned.
