Sitosterol- and acylglycerol-based organometallic complexes, and pharmaceutical compositions and diet products containing same

An organometallic complex prepared by reacting a cation of a metal (M) having a degree of oxidation of at least 2 for use as a biocatalyst in the living metabolism, free beta - or gamma -sitosterol or a mixture of these two substances or a plant extract containing same, and a mono-, di- or triglyceride of formula (I), wherein R1 is a saturated or unsaturated C14-24 fatty acid acyl residue, hydrogen or a mono-, di- or tri-galactose or glucose, R2 is an unsaturated C18 fatty acid acyl residue, preferably a residue of oleic acid, of a positional isomer thereof of double bond (cis-6, 7, 9, 11, 12 and 13), or of an isobranched isomer thereof, and R3 is a saturated or unsaturated C14-24 fatty acid acyl residue or a hydrogen atom. Pharmaceutical compositions and diet products containing said complex, particularly where the metal is vanadium, and the use thereof for treating diabetes and complications thereof as well as hyperinsulinism, insulin resistance and related diseases, are also disclosed.
