A process for producing an iron-making material composition from a bauxite dissolution residue, of which any economical use has not been found heretofore, having an Na2O content of 3 wt.% or less and an ignition loss of 10 wt.% or less, which process comprises mixing bauxite with an alkali solution to prepare a slurry, feeding the slurry to an extractor to extract alumina under such a condition that most of extractable alumina can be extracted from bauxite but the dissolution of reactive silica can be minimized, separating silica dissolved in the extract deposits substantially in the form of a desilicification product, and washing and drying the separated dissolution residue.
