REACTOR-CORE SHROUD, IN PARTICULAR A SHROUD FOR A BOILING-WATER REACTOR

Reactor-core shrouds are usually made by welding together cylindrical elements (2) and annular end plates (3), although recently cracks have appeared in the region of the welds (6) in reactors of the boiling-water type. The invention calls for cavities (8) to be provided running at right angles to the welds (6) extending round the end plates and for the central section (81) of the cavities to pass through the zone (61) affected by the heat produced by welding while the transverse grooves (82) before each end of the central section lie outside the zone (61) affected by heat during welding, a tie rod (7) being fitted in the cavity (8) substantially flush with the surface of the shroud and wedged in one of the transverse grooves (82).
