In later external improvement of a roof, where the existing roofing is secured at certain points to a supporting structure with fixing means, such as screws or nails, that are accessible from the outside, spacers being attached to the supporting structure at said certain points, and new roofing being attached to these spacers, and where insulation is preferably placed in the space formed between the original and new roofing, the affixing of the spacers comprises securing fixing brackets to the existing roofing (5) at the certain points and securing lathing members (7) to the fixing brackets (3). It is advantageous for the fixing brackets (3) to be secured in that the existing fixing means (2) are removed and replaced with new fixing means (11) designed to support the spacers (3, 7) and the new roofing.
