METHOD FOR ALTERING WORKER BEE BEHAVIOUR WITH BROOD PHEROMONES

A method for altering the behaviour of worker bees in the brooder colony of a queenless or starter hive or in the queenless portion of a hive, in particular with a view to increasing the production of queen bee jelly. The method comprises transplanting larvae into the cell cups of a suitable frame enabling said larvae to be fed by the brooder colony, and inserting said frame into said starter hive or said queenless hive portion so that it contacts the brooder colony. The method is characterized in that an effective amount of a fragrance based on one or more pheromones is incorporated into the constituent material, particularly the beeswax from said cell cups, prior to transplanting the larvae.
