The following are claimed (A) fragments of HHV6/SIE virus genomic DNA obtainable by digestion of the genomic DNA with suitable restriction enzymes, except for the 3.9 kb fragment obtd. by digestion with ClaI; (B) nucleotide sequences which comprise all or part of a DNA fragment of type (A) or are complementary to all or part of one of the strands of such a fragment; (C) clones of eukaryotic or prokaryotic cells transformed with at least one recombinant DNA sequence of type (B).
