WATERJET PROPULSION UNIT FOR WATER CRAFT WITH CONTROL ELEMENTS FOR CHANGING THE DIRECTION OF THRUST OF THE WATERJET

Described is a waterjet propulsion unit for water craft, the unit having a water pump (12) with stators (15, 16) fitted upstream and downstream of the pump to remove turbulence from the incoming water and from the waterjet produced by the pump. Each stator (15, 16) acts in conjunction with a coaxially disposed nozzle (20, 21), the two nozzles being mounted so that they can move in the longitudinal direction independently of each other. The propulsion unit is also fitted with a geared transmission (36 to 40) which can be shifted to drive the pump either clockwise or anticlockwise to change the direction of motion of the craft, the propulsion unit being mounted on the craft, approximately at right angles to the axis of rotation of the pump rotor, on a king journal (30) so that it can be turned through ± 90°.
