A triflate compound of the following formula (I) wherein Ar is a phenyl group or a tolyl group, R is a phenyl group, a tolyl group, a linear C₁-C₁₀ alkyl group, a mono or difluoro C₁-C₁₀ alkyl group, a branched C₃-C₈ alkyl group, a C₂-C₇ alkoxyalkyl group or a C₂-C₈ alkenyl group, Tf is a trifluoromethanesulfonyl group, and Y is H or F. This compound is used in a process for preparing silacyclohexane-based liquid crystal compounds.
