The current inlet is for the superconducting device, e.g. coil (2), housed in a metallic receptacle (13) filled with liquid helium which is supplied with current from a high-voltage cable (3) at ambient temp. via a high-Tc superconductor (4) and a metallic surface (9) coupled to it by a reservoir (12) of liquid nitrogen. The entire system is enclosed in an earthed envelope (14) advantageously of stainless steel in which a vacuum of the order of 1 micro torr is maintained for purposes of thermal and electrical insulation. The cable connection is insulated and sealed by a glass or ceramic piece (20) mounted on a filled epoxy resin or tempered glass insulator (21).
