How to record and play back time-compressed signals (TIME-COMPRESSED SIGNAL RECORDING AND REPRODUCING PROCESS)

It is known to transmit, by satellite and broadband transmission links, digital signals having a time compression of 20 times and correspondingly having a wide frequency range. In actual operation, it is required to record and reproduce the data in real time. It is an object of the present invention to provide a method which requires as small a modification as possible to the commercially available spiral scan recorder for this purpose. Time compression is performed at increased tape longitudinal speed and increased headdrum rotation speed. Regeneration is performed at the set tape longitudinal speed and at the same increased or slightly reduced head drum rotation speed. The conversion to the frequency position for real time and for real time is made by a memory in which a signal repeatedly generated by superposition is recorded and the signal is read during real time reproduction. The invention is particularly suitable for the recording and real time reproduction of time compressed video or audio signals transmitted by satellites.
