A single pulse vehicle radar system for tracking a target for an automobile according to the present invention detects a transmitted signal reflected from a target and received at two different positions to determine the sum and difference of the detected reflected signals at these two positions . The source frequency provided by the Gunn diode 84 is applied to the dual-lobe single pulse antenna 40 and transmitted thereby. The antenna lobe detects the reflected signal from the target by sensing them in two different lobes. A hybrid junction 74 provides a sum and difference signal to the mixer that homodyne the signal to produce sum and difference Doppler frequency signals using the source frequency.
