FIELD: welding. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has television camera for controlling welding zone, video signal processing unit whose output is connected with deflection system of electron beam welding unit. Refractive prism positioned in front of television camera objective has optical area less than that of objective optical window and angle of refraction within the range of 3-5 deg. Optical axis of television camera objective is directed onto joint forward of welding bath. Refractive prism projects reduced-intensity and shifted image of welding bath onto objective. EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified construction and enhanced reliability in operation. 2 dwg
