FIELD: mining. SUBSTANCE: gas pressure is preliminary measured in a bed. With pressure equal to or exceeding threshold pressure taken for given coal grade, or equal to 1.5 MPa if there is no data on threshold value, coal sampling is carried out. Samples are placed in sealed vessels and gas/air mixture over the samples is analyzed for methane and its homologs content. Relationship between content of each high methane homolog and methane content is determined, and at values of the relative magnitudes exceeding maximum value for safe areas the area under study is classified as dangerous from viewpoint of gas releases.
