SUBSTANCE: claimed invention is concerned with 3,4,5,6- tetrahydrophthalamide derivatives and 3,4,5,6- tetrahydroisophthalemide derivatives which have excellent activity as effective and active ingredients of herbicides, and also with processes for preparation thereof. The claimed invention discloses compounds that atoms more effective herbicidal activity, and also efficient and industrial processes for preparation thereof. More specifically, tetrahydrophthalimide derivative obtained by reaction of halogen-substituted 5- cycloalkoxy aniline derivative with 3,4,5- tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, or tetrahydroisophthalimide derivative of the present invention is reacted with various types of amines to give tetrahydrophthalamide derivatives represented by formula (I): said tetrahydrophthalamide and tetrahydroisophthalimide derivatives show excellent herbicidal activity in treating the soil of flooded rice fields and fields in treating foliage stems. Tetrahydroisophthalimide derivatives are also useful as intermediate compounds for preparing tetrahydrophthalamide derivatives or the like. EFFECT: improved properties of the tide compounds.
