SALT-HEATING FURNACE FOR MAGNESIUM MELTING

FIELD: metallurgy, namely salt-heating furnace designs for melting and refining magnesium. SUBSTANCE: magnesium is being loaded through one of branch pipes 11 under crown 4 to salt melt. Upon melting process magnesium whose density is lower than that of salt melt collects in upper part of crown 4 free from slime impurities deposited on hearth 7. Furnace is being heated by electric current supplied by electrodes 3. Using of ports 9,10, arrangement of crown under slopes 6 of hearth 7 and arrangement of electrodes 3 lower than crown 4 provide occurring of closed convective flows of salt melt around crown 4. That prevents local superheating of crown increasing its service life period and simplifies slime collection onto hearth 7 preventing its deposition onto walls of crown 4 and shaft 1.
