The invention concerns dimeric alcohol-bis-sulphates, trimeric alcohol-tris-sulphates and their ether sulphates which are obtained by reacting dimeric alcohols and/or trimeric alcohols or their addition products with alkylene oxides using a sulphonating agent and then neutralizing them with an aqueous base. The compounds have surface-active properties and assist the wetting of solid surfaces, for example, and the emulsification of phases which otherwise cannot be mixed with one another. The components are also suitable as paste liquefiers.
