The method involves use of a solar sensor whose field of view has one or more sub-sectors separated by gaps in a selected plane of a three-axis, orthogonal coordinate system fixed wrt. the satellite and covers a known range perpendicular to the plane, a single-axis rotation rate gyro with optionally oriented measurement axis, a torque generator with no flywheel and a regulator. The torque generator produces torques about all three axes under control of the regulator which produces control signals according to the gyro measurement signals according to a stated control equation. A rotation pulse which is not parallel to the direction of the measurement axis is generated using an additional flywheel device.
