Arrangement for partial discharge detection in high voltage cables and connection elements

The arrangement detects partial discharge in a high voltage cable or a connection element for a high voltage cable, e.g. terminal connectors or nuts. The high voltage inner conductor (4) of the cable is surrounded via its main insulation (8) by an outer semiconductive layer (9) and, if desired, by an outer metallic shield (11). A detector arrangement is provided to detect partial discharge pulses and to feed them to a pulse analyser unit (13). A strip waveguide (5,6) is arranged directly in front of the end of the cable or its connector element in the longitudinal direction of the inner conductor (4), parallel to it and equally spaced from it. The geometric length of the strip waveguide in the longitudinal direction is selected in dependence on the electric length of the partial discharge signals to be evaluated. Both ends of the waveguide have a connector (A,B,C,D). These are in connection with the pulse analyser unit (13).
